Young thinkers, innovators, entrepreneurs, campaigners and changemakers alike joined at the State Theatre of WA to respond to unprecedented challenges and issues they care about. The Y was extremely excited to be able to support TEDx Youth in delivering an incredibly memorable event in March where young people were able to celebrate ideas worth spreading and strive for a better future.
The event hosted nine inspiring speakers, performers, short films and interactive installations, connecting 300 local forward-thinking young people to global, innovative ideas. Speakers included the likes of Melissa Cristina Marquez, a marine biologist studying human-wildlife conflict with focus on sharks, and Cougar Morrison, an identity superhero passionate about making drag accessible to everyone and championing all the unique things that make us different.
Amidst the roar of laughter and cheering for these dynamic displays, young people were able to meet like-minded peers and delve into stimulating conversation about the future of our planet, discussing issues like data, technology, climate change and everything in between.
This was Perth’s first ever TEDx Youth event, and the Y looks forward to empowering inspired young people for many years to come, continuing to make our world a better, brighter place for future generations.
